Examination day October 2025 for the IRSE Advanced Diploma in Railway Control Engineering and the Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals

Candidates will be able to sit:
either the Certificate (module A) - available for all, IRSE members and non-members
or one or more of modules B, C and D - only available for IRSE members who have previously passed an IRSE exam module

See the exam webpages for guidance on preparation and booking your exam module(s)

All exams will be held online, monitored by remote invigilation and anti-plagiarism software. IRSE exams are closed book - candidates are not allowed to access any study information during their exam.

The Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals qualification covers all aspects of railway control engineering at a foundation level. It is a stand-alone qualification as well as being the mandatory pre-qualifier for all wishing to sit the Advanced Diploma In Railway Control Engineering in the future. For further information about the Certificate, and to see the free essential reading list, please look at our webpages - https://www.irse.org/Qualifications-Careers/Exam-Support-Resources/Module-A. Costs for exam modules in October 2025 will be announced in mid 2025

Passing the Advanced Diploma in Railway Control Engineering (previously known as "the IRSE Professional Exam") provides one of the main routes to corporate membership of the IRSE and can provide additional qualifications for professional registration. It tests candidates' knowledge of railway signal and telecoms principles and practices. For further information, see our support resources pages -https://www.irse.org/Qualifications-Careers/Exam-Support-Resources (some study information is only available to IRSE members).

If you are interested in sitting module(s) B, C and/or D in October 2025, you are encouraged to apply for IRSE membership as soon as possible in order for you to get full access to all study material and other membership benefits.
