Further information: for further information, please contact events@irse.org

The next presidential lecture will continue the theme of unsung heroes within the railway signalling and communications industry with Paul McSharry MIRSE discussing the vital role of technicians.

Hosted by the IRSE London and South East Section, the next presidential lecture will continue the theme of unsung heroes with Paul McSharry, IRSE Council member and Managing Director of Kilborn Consulting, discussing the vital role which technicians play in all areas of the railway control and communications industry.

Paul will be joined by James Heaton MIRSE to deliver the lecture.

James has 18 years’ experience in signalling maintenance, projects and assurance. He became a trainee S&T technician at the age of 23 on HS1, helping to support commissioning activities and transition to maintenance for the then new Section 2 (Ebbsfleet to St Pancras). In 2009, he joined Docklands Light Railway (DLR) carrying out signalling first line response and maintenance duties. In 2014, he moved into a role in the DLR engineering offices, where he has remained working as asset performance engineer, signal engineer and now senior signalling engineer.

An Incorporated Engineer and Member of the IRSE, James has experience of several projects that have transitioned into maintenance, both as a technician and engineer, as well as being involved in project design, build, test and assurance activities.
